Repairs and Resurfacing for the R67 Road

Bosch Projects, Port Elizabeth, was appointed by SANRAL in 2014 for the Repair and Resurfacing of the R67 Section 2 between Makhanda (formerly known as Grahamstown) and Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape. This existing 70 km section of road is a very narrow single carriageway of 6.6m in places, and the contract includes the surfacing of shoulders to widen the surfaced roadway to 8m wherever possible for improved road safety. Additionally, intersections and accesses are being upgraded, new concrete lined drains are being constructed to improve the drainage, and guardrails, fencing and road signage is being replaced. Mamlambo Construction was appointed for the construction which commenced in January 2017, and the contract is approximately 70% complete. Employment creation for local labourers and EME subcontractors is a key focus on the project and there are approximately 20 local EME subcontractors on site, with a total of almost 300 local labourers being employed.
