Update on the repair and resurfacing of the R67 in the Eastern Cape

The repair and resurfacing of the R67 between Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) and Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape for SANRAL, is nearing completion. The project, which involved mainly the surfacing of the existing gravel shoulders to widen the surfaced roadway, and re-surfacing of the 70km section of road, is about 80% complete. Community development was a key focus of the project and 22 local subcontractors were employed for various parts of the work, including the construction of concrete lined drains, walkways and edge beams, fencing and road sign installation, and upgrading of rest areas.
